Welcome to Holding Space for Learning
I'm Allison, a parent, first-grade teacher, and career changer who found my way into education in midlife.
This is a space for reflecting on literacy, student behavior, belonging, equity, and the everyday realities of teaching children.
Most of what I write begins with a classroom moment, a question I can't stop thinking about, or a belief I'm still trying to understand more deeply.
I don't have all the answers.
I'm still learning.
But I believe children deserve classrooms where they feel safe, valued, challenged, and fully themselves.
If you're new here, these posts offer a good place to start:
Belonging Is Not Determined by Majority Vote

About This Space
Holding Space for Learning grew out of my work in public schools, my graduate studies, my experience as a parent, and my journey into teaching later in life.
I believe students learn best when they are treated as whole humans and when schools balance high expectations with belonging, dignity, and care.
Here you'll find reflections on literacy, behavior, public education, equity, and the choices we make every day that shape children's experiences in school.
This isn't a space for perfect answers.
It's a space for noticing, questioning, learning, and growing.
